While you were busy entering my annual “Write a headline contest,“ (winner to be announced shortly), I have been enjoying touring my hometown, Manhattan, taking pictures and discovering material for my blogs.
For example, we have all seen buildings that are being renovated, or cleaned. The outside is covered with scaffolding that often appears to be metal mesh, to prevent anything on the building’s wall from tumbling down and hurting someone.
Who would have thought that there was a marketing opportunity here? Well, the Plaza hotel thought of it. This New York City landmark created a massive mural and draped it over its facade. The intent was to provide a sense of how the building will look after the exterior restoration is complete. The 62,000-square-foot drawing is the size of one and a half football fields, was hand-drawn and then attached to the construction scaffolding. (All façade information found here.)
What a great way to call attention to yourself, especially if you want to show off an upgrade. Is there any ordinary, quotidian activity you are doing that can, with just a little extra effort and a good idea, turn the humdrum into a hot dog?
