New Year's and Champagne go together like Dick Clark and Times Square. So I particularly enjoyed reading a review of "The Widow Clicquot" in The New York Times Book Review. It tells the story of the woman with a great business sense and head of an international commercial empire, who helped elevate her Champagne, Veuve Clicquot, to the celebrity status it still enjoys today.
The quote that got my attention was from a letter she wrote in the 1860's: "The world is in perpetual motion, and we must invent the things of tomorrow…act with audacity."
Act with audacity. What a good idea for all of us. If I had more room on my list of resolutions for 2009, I would add it immediately.
